| Liposuction is an excellent means to improve the contour of your body that would otherwise not change with diet and exercise. A perfect example is a fit woman with "saddle bags" who knows that endless hours in the gym will not bring the results she is looking for. Or consider the man who lifts weight but cannot seem to change the look of his "love handles". These areas are genetically predetermined areas of fat and only surgery can improve them. Liposuction is a modern miracle in which these pockets of fat can be removed successfully through tiny incisions utilizing a small, thin tube called a cannula. It is also important to note that the changes you receive with liposuction are permanent, because the human body is incapable of creating new fat cells. |

| if you possess well defined bulges of fat that do not disappear with diet or exercise, if you dislike your shape that reminds you ... lets say... of your mother! The success of the procedure depends on the tone of the skin in that particular area and will be determined by Dr. Bensimon at the time of consultation. However even in less than ideal cases we find liposuction can gain good improvement and is acceptable to the patient. |
| Weight Loss? |
| Even though liposuction should not be used as a means to lose weight we find that many of our patients go on to lose weight after the procedure. This is not well understood but certainly universally welcomed!! |
| What we do different. |
| We, unlike other practices, give you choices for anesthesia. In many instances liposuction can be comfortably performed in the office with local anesthesia and mild sedation. When patients choose to have their procedure done this way, they tell us the experience was pleasurable and the recovery easier than with general anesthesia. |
| External Ultrasound is performed to help loosen the fat and make it easier to remove. This helps to decrease bruising and is easier on your tissues allowing for a quicker recovery. |
| Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL), is a wonderful new improvement to enhance the result of liposuction. Instead of the surgeon's hand moving the cannula, a power handle very quickly and gently provides the "back and forth" motion. It is gentler on your tissues and is a more effective way of removing the fat. Above all, it allows for a more complete result. |
| You can be active very soon after your surgery. |
| Minimal dressings and a comfortable supportive garment is worn after your procedure to help enhance your result. Bruising and swelling is normal to a variable degree after the surgery and is usually gone in 7-14 days. |
