Amazingly one of the best fillers available to add volume to your face is your own fat! One of the major aging changes of the face is loss of volume which is mainly caused by a gradual loss of fatty tissue. The loss of fatty tissue results in a "hollowed out look" around the cheeks, sunken in look around the eyes and a general deflated look of the face. Children and younger people look young because the fatty tissue masks the underlying bony anatomy. As we age and lose our fatty cover, the bony structures become more obvious. An excellent way to regain the richness of youth is to replace this lost fat by transplanting it from another part of the body into the face.
In about an hour....
Fat injection is a simple "in office" procedure that takes about an hour. There can be a small amount of bruising and swelling after the procedure but there is usually no discomfort. The fat is removed using gentle liposuction with a syringe. The fat "harvest site" can be the abdomen, the outer thighs, knees or hips. This is a gentler technique than regular liposuction. One advantage of using fat to add volume to the face is that patients usually have enough fat to correct whatever the need is. Once the fat is removed it is prepared to be re-injected immediately into the face.
There are many areas of the face that can benefit from fat injections. The most common areas are the upper and lower eyes to improve the "skeletonized" look, the cheeks, and the area under the cheeks, naso-labial folds, lips, marinonette lines, the chin, and the jaw line. The areas around the temples can be injected to soften the hollowing in the forehead area. You can also inject your own fat into your hands to soften the visible veins and tendons that often reveal a person’s age.
Fat injection needs to be repeated in order to layer and build volume over time. The number of treatments is very individual but the average is three injections over 18mos. We have found that this will offer a very long lasting correction and sometimes a permanent one.
What we do different.
We utilize very small cannulas for the removal of very small particles of fat. This fat has the consistency of a paste that is easy to mold and enables us to use it difficult areas such as the delicate tissue in the upper and lower eyelids. This is one of the best areas for fat injections and one that gives long term results.
We believe that using fresh fat every time yields the best results. We never inject frozen fat.
The Non-Surgical Facelift.
The non-surgical facelift utilizes the combination of Botox, dermal fillers and fat injection to sculpt and soften the contours of aging without surgery. The results can be very dramatic. Comfortably performed in the office with minimal downtime, the non-surgical facelift is a powerful technique for those patients who are not ready for surgery.
