Facelifts
The most rejuvenating intervention you can do to your face.
A natural aging change of the face is a sagging of the skin and inner tissues. When a person pulls on their skin with their fingers in front of a mirror and sees the improvement they would like, they are probably ready for some type of facelift procedure. It is important to understand that all facelifts are not the same.
The Facelift You Need
is the one that looks natural, doesn't look like you have had surgery and lasts a long time.
In many people this is only accomplished when the facelift is performed by taking your unique anatomy into consideration. A deep plane face lift may be needed to give the most complete correction. A deep plane facelift offers the most dramatic change that is natural looking and lasts many, many years. A deep plane facelift frees up the inner tissues and puts them back where they used to be, thereby reversing the aging process. Very few surgeons perform this procedure because it requires a highly skilled and motivated plastic surgeon whose main interest is to give you the very best result.
Sometimes a modified facelift can address issues that are more subtle or indicative of earlier aging changes. Modified facelifts have many different "catchy" names these days. The Weekend Facelift, the Mini-Facelift, the Short Scar Facelift, the Lunch Time Facelift and the Lifestyle Facelift are all names to describe some form of a modified facelift. Determining the best procedure for you takes an experienced aesthetic eye and a plastic surgeon who is skilled enough to offer a lesser or more invasive surgery whenever it is needed.
All Facelifts are not the same.
It is necessary to address specifically what your face needs when performing a facelift procedure. The typical pulled windblown look that is so often seen in the public and the media is because the wrong surgery was done.
These are the things you need to avoid.
  1. The "pulled look", and the loss of natural curves, causing a flattening of the face that looks unnatural even to the untrained eye.
  2. Sideburns that are unnaturally high.
  3. Visible scars in front of the ears.
  4. Pulled down or "pixie" earlobes.
  5. Unnatural hairline behind ear.
  6. Inability to wear your hair up.
  7. Wrinkles that drape unnaturally especially obvious when talking.
  8. Exaggerated crows feet in contrast to a smoother lower face.
  9. A result that doesn't last.
  10. A stigmatized look that makes it obvious you had surgery.
The reason for a stigmatized look
... is that the correction has been made by pulling on the skin only. The error in this approach is that it is the inner structures that have sagged and by pulling on the skin only you are merely camouflaging the real problem. More importantly, pulling the skin taut, destroys the natural curves of the face resulting in an obvious bizarre look so commonly seen in the media and is the butt of late-night TV shows. The skin is elastic, and pulling on it is only a temporary measure: the effect is quickly lost. When you hear of someone having multiple facelifts, this is the reason.
Looking good.
Will happen in about one week after a modified facelift and about a week and a half to two weeks after a deep plane facelift. Other than some mild bruising and moderate swelling you may go out the day after your surgery if you so wish. You may find it hard to believe but there is very little discomfort with this operation.
